You’re moving into a place with security alarms
A new home may come with a home security system. All the devices work, are hung in the best areas, and are ready to go. In this case, just pick up the phone to call and start a new service contract. A Vivint professional will still show up to ensure there are no compatibility issues, and they might offer options on where you should replace bad outdated components. It's a quick trip, and you can have your monitoring set up without paying for any new alarms and cameras -- unless you get some new devices.
The previous homeowners can give an existing Vivint contract to your family for a one-time transfer fee to make the transfer easier. If the owners are downsizing to an apartment complex or retirement community, transferring the Vivint service may be a condition of the sale.
You want to move and take your home security devices with you
You may need to take your old Vivint system with you to a new place when you move. It should be pretty easy to transfer, as modern components are plug and play. You can remove each alarm or camera by yourself or call a professional installer to come and take care of the system. Then a pro will hang the same components -- and any smart items you need to add -- in your new home. And your home security contract will remain the same.
